What is CASFS?


CASFS is an IRS recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization. CASFS stands for Central Arizona Speculative Fiction Society. Members work together to promote and educate others about the multifaceted world of science, science fiction and fantasy.

What conventions does CASFS sponsor?


CASFS sponsors several different conventions including SmerfCons, PhringeCons, CopperCons, HexaCons and WesterCons. CopperCon was created in 1981 and HexaCon was created in 1990.

What are the benefits to being a CASFS member?


Besides dining with your friends monthly, enjoying social gatherings, and learning new things? Of course, there is the bi-monthly subscription to ConNotations, the science fiction newszine. Volunteering for various events and conventions is a bonus.

How did CASFS get created?


CASFS was incorpororated in 1979 or 1980. Please see our History page for one recollection of CASFS' roots. If you were one of the founders of CASFS and would like to share your memories or if you just have a good story about Phoenix fandom you would like to share, please contact us.

Where are the meetings held?


Our meetings are held on the last Friday of the month, except for October, November and December when we switch to the second Friday of the month. Our current location is the JB's Family Restaurant at 1818 W Montebello, Phoenix AZ Our meetings begin at 8PM but many of us meet earlier to socialize over dinner.
