ProgrammingUpdated 08/15/08Welcome back to CopperCon28. We guess you're looking at this page because you want to know if you'll find anything interesting at our con. And we hope you find it. Our theme is the Supernatural and our Author Guest of Honor is the ever-popular MaryJanice Davidson who got our attention with her Betsy, The Vampire Queen series, the Wyndham Werewolves, Fred the Mermaid and her YA novels Jennifer Scales. Her husband and collaborator on the Jennifer Scales series, Anthony Alongi, is also with us. We are also guesting Greg Weisman and David Hedgecock who will, undoubtedly, be able to entertain us with stories and insight into Gargoyles, the popular TV show and comic book. For the adults - we'll have a chance to learn about Gargoyle sex on Friday night& Our Music/Filk Guest is Steven Brust. His name should be familiar to our readers as well; he's the author of the Vlad Taltos books. Steven will be giving a concert on Saturday and will be involved in several literature panels. He'll be autographing on Sat and Sun at 11am. And there are several Filk concerts scheduled throughout the weekend featuring different musicians. We've got a substantial number of literature panels including several featuring our Guest of Honor and her husband, Anthony Alongi. Our media panels include our ever-popular SciFi Jeopardy, a presentation by an independent filmmaker, and an update on the next Star Trek movie. Our Science track is represented by folks from the local Moon Society, our own Dr. Dave giving us the NASA update, and we are fortunate enough to have someone from the Phoenix Mars Mission project at UofA with us on Saturday. You will find panels covering subjects that are not the "run-of-the-mill" type topics. They include topics on Paganism and Wicca, palmistry and magic. And if chocolate is something you worship, you'll want to join us Saturday evening for a bit of irreverence. And we didn t forget our younger Fen. We have our usual costuming and gaming and art/craft panels. This year they can paint glow-in-the-dark on a t-shirt, hat or bag and take it home. Mark Greenawalt, our local body-painting artist of no small fame, is with us again on Friday, using our Gargoyle theme on a lovely model. You can also learn the art of Japanese Kanji fingerpainting on Friday night. And some local SCA folks will instruct us on chainmail, siege weapons, medieval calligraphy, and several fighting demonstrations. For the gamers out there, these folks will give you some pointers on what your characters can realistically do with a sword and armor bring your questions. There is a LARP scheduled for Friday and Saturday at 6pm. They'll be playing "Swords of Caine" , a Vampire: Masquerade game. You'll also have an opportunity to learn more about local fan clubs. Throughout the weekend, various clubs will be talking about who they are and what they do.
Click on the track you want to see. We'll have an Opinion Card this year and we really want you fill out one or more while you're at con. Give us an opportunity to improve our con. Look for the cards throughout the con and the special boxes to drop them in.
Have a good time and come back real soon.! |
